With shared missions, PCs for People and 35 Mile Foundation have joined forces to bring affordable, high-speed mobile internet to historically marginalized communities. 35 Mile Foundation funds digital equity initiatives that enable affordable internet access and advance social justice, while PCs for People provides low-cost, quality computers and internet access to underserved individuals, families, and nonprofits.

“Together with 35 Mile Foundation, PCs for People is reducing digital access barriers and creating new pathways for education, employment, and empowerment by providing high-speed mobile internet that people can take wherever they go across the U.S.,” stated Casey Sorensen, CEO of PCs for People. “We look forward to an enduring partnership that makes digital inclusion a reality.”

What’s Different about this Project?

To launch this new partnership, PCs for People now offers 4G mobile hotspots for free and 5G mobile hotspots for as low as $50, eliminating the financial barrier to 5G access. With subsidized internet rates from 35 Mile Foundation, qualifying customers can now access high-speed internet for just $10/month on longer-term plans—a reduction from the standard $15/month. This service, available nationwide via the T-Mobile network, enables individuals, including those experiencing housing insecurity or working as migrant workers, to stay connected wherever they go.

Digital Equity Efforts Being Addressed

PCs for People’s customers often face barriers in multiple areas of life, including housing, employment, and access to benefits. This partnership offers long-term, reliable internet with contracts up to three years—eliminating the worry of disconnection or unexpected monthly fees. With costs as low as $10/month, individuals no longer need to choose between internet and essential expenses. The goal is to help families sustain internet access year-round, even in summer when schools are out.

Project Goals

The pilot program, launched in October, aims to assess how uninterrupted internet service impacts the lives of PCs for People’s customers, compared to standard month-to-month access. The partnership enables PCs for People to reach even more people across the U.S., and anonymized demographic data will help identify broader community needs and inform future program expansions. This data may reveal patterns in stability and help 35 Mile Foundation and PCs for People develop more targeted initiatives.

Cassie Bair, VP for Broadband Services at 35 Mile Foundation, stated "Bridging the digital divide starts with affordable internet access; when we empower individuals with connectivity, we unlock opportunities for education, employment, and community engagement, transforming lives one connection at a time. We are excited to partner with PCs for People through this initial pilot and for many years to come."
