Our Grantmaking Strategy

Social justice is a very broad category of grantmaking, with many organizations specializing in specific areas. We look for opportunities where we can make a difference. Our funding structure allows us to provide grants to new programs and emerging organizations as well as to take risks on innovative approaches to social justice that aren’t currently being funded.

As with our digital equity funding, we work within our network to identify opportunities and fund social justice organizations in a variety of ways from operating costs to spinning up new initiatives and everything in between.

Unlike many funders, we don’t accept grant proposals or inquiries for grants. Instead, we consult with our extensive network within the digital equity and social justice ecosystem to identify organizations that align with our grantmaking goals.

Due to our close connection to broadband, it’s natural for us to emphasize digital equity in our social justice grantmaking. We’re best positioned to understand and conduct grantmaking in three areas:

  • Internet Access
  • Affordability
  • Low-cost Internet-enabled Devices

"Unlike large national foundations who are not specifically focused on Digital Inclusion, 35 Mile is agile and can act rapidly to direct funding to very strategic and targeted programs and needs that reflect their mission to support a sustainable equity ecosystem in Boulder County. We appreciate the ease and transparency of the funding process and the ability to work with a team that truly understands the importance of supporting local efforts."
